Coastal Patchwork

A pattern near and dear to my heart, Coastal Patchwork is inspired by my ever classy grandma. The "coastal grandma" trend that is all the rage right now has nothing on my grandma Adele. She has lived her whole life landlocked in the Midwest, but really embodies what is now so aspirational about a coastal lifestyle: charm, ease, beauty, and comfort. Each piece of the patchwork reminds me a bit of her. The background features white and blue stripes because she has always liked wearing pinstriped men's button-up shirts (and loved to say how "you can't even tell they're from the men's section!" She was right, you couldn't!). The floral is my own spin on the blue and white floral boldly printed on the two big couches in her family room, where I spent what now feels like half my childhood. The shell-shaped design is based on the wallpaper in her entry hallway, and the gingham comes from the either blue and white or green and white gingham tablecloths that are practically a requirement on her kitchen table. I've always admired my grandma's style, and it surprises me not at all that the design choices she has made for decades are now being appreciated as the perfect blend of sophisticated, timeless, and cozy—I just hope I've faithfully captured that with Coastal Patchwork.
