My Blue Stripes pattern didn't exactly test the bounds of my artist abilities, and yet it has become a best-seller for EBD. Obviously, I'm known for my multi-colorful, whimsical floral prints, but in 2024, I finally gave myself permission to branch out into something a little more simple. This easy little baby-blue-and-white pinstripe felt like it was the ideal pair with many of my more intricate florals (which is funny because usually stripes are NOT considered a break for the eyes, but goes to show you that my art really is maximalist!!). Adding in solids and geometric patterns since that first experiement with Blue Stripes has been great for business, and it's also been very validating, because the large majority of orders with solids or stripes also include my signature florals. The mix-and-match potential that all my different solids and prints now have is approximately 3000% more fun for customers (I've seen it in person, watching my wholesale buyers pick our their prodcuts), but also for us, when we're styling product for photos and videos. The fact that Blue Stripes struck such a cord with people is still a bit of a surprise to me. I said from the first time we ever stocked our Kindle Case (which was the first time Blue Stripes made an appearance on products) that it was surprisingly one of my favs, but I didn't realize practically everyone would agree! Looking back, it makes sense. I think the design taps into the beachy, coastal escapism that everyone is vibing with right now. And for me, the pattern just pairs perfectly with Primavera, my personal favorite of my florals. I am very grateful to the part of my brain that urged myself to make the ultimately very safe, but scary-at-the-time leap to adding Blue Stripes to my line—it's been a hit with me and my customers, and that's all you can really ask for as a business owner!
