Why am I so shocked that this print became an instant best-seller? Countless requests for a design for the "witchy girls" with a "dark academia" vibe crossed my desk before I finally came up with this. And really, the concept in this print wasn't all from my own brain. I set out to create a floral design featuring mushrooms, and after it was finished, I was completely torn between and a beige and a black background. I asked my followers, my friends, and the EBD team for their thoughts, and I still couldn't commit to one or the other. Thankfully, Olivia, our social media manager, came up with an and-both solution for me: add stars and moons to the pattern with the black background, and it can be a celestial-themed print. Brilliant, especially because I could then justify keeping both the beige and black versions of the design. Once Celestial Garden was complete, everyone (followers, friends, team) loved the finished product–like, a lot more than I was expecting. That design sold out, restocked, and sold out again in the blink of an eye. It even scored us a wholesale order from NASA (didn't realize they had several gift shops on their campus!), and they ordered literally every product that Celestial Garden came in! Even though this design isn't the epitome of my own style, I absolutely love when I can step out of my comfort zone and still feel like I got it right! Thank you, Celestial Garden, the queen that you are, for validating me as an artist, and finally fulfilling the wishes of the dark academia girlies (and the astronauts!).
